It was raining heavily. The morning was so cold and my bed really warm and comfortable. I knew it was time to get up for my quite time but it was hard getting out of bed. The more it rained, the more I just wanted to stay in bed and enjoy the rain.
Then came the Holy Spirit urging me to get up for my quite time. I could literally feel Him pulling the sheets from under me. But I still wanted to sleep. You know how sometimes your best friend seems to know what’s right for you but you just can’t see it yourself? I guess the Holy Spirit was saying, “Don’t miss this moment…”
At last something made me jump out of bed and with some remorse too. “God is already waiting for you and the rain keeping you in bed won’t last forever.” That’s what the Holy Spirit said! I will never recover from the experience I had in His presence that morning. I almost missed it. The Holy Spirit won’t always drag me out of bed. It dawned on me once and for all that I’ll always have choices but choosing God over being comfortable should be a permanent decision in my life.
We tend to look at anything that shakes us out of our safe place as being bad or terribly bad. We like to fight anything that tries to come in the way of our feeling good so we can remain where we are. Hint Hint: God will often pull you out of your warm bed. Sometimes God will put you in a place where you don’t feel warm and fuzzy so He can show you His glory. A comfortable place may not be the most beneficial place to be right now.
I’m no masochist and I don’t go looking for my daily dose of discomfort. However, I have observed that flowing with God a lot of time demands that you put yourself and your immediate needs aside to be in His presence with undivided attention.
Some things have tremendous value like allowing God disrupt your perfectly planned day and letting Him do the planning to include Himself. God is not bored and definitely not lonely. But you have a lot to benefit from finding time for God in your busy life. He constantly require that you carry Him along by studying and meditating on His word, praying and talking to Him and worshipping in reckless abandon.
God’s loving nature looks out for what’s best for you even if it’s outside of your comfort zone. No matter what God is asking of you today, God is good and you’re loved.
See the scriptures below and meditate on them.
I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live. Deuteronomy 30:19
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
